Throughout the month of June works will be carried out to prepare the land on which the “Grand Chapiteau” will be assembled for the upcoming performances of Amaluna to ensure that everything is ready for the premiere of this fascinating show.
The piece of land that has been set aside and readied for the Cirque du Soleil big top is located next to Hotel Gold River and will offer parking for the show-goers. The same area will also house the facilities for the 158 members of the show.
Since opening its doors, more than 150 million spectators in over 300 different cities have enjoyed the impressive performances offered by this company on six continents.
In one year, Cirque du Soleil sells 122,400 boxes of popcorn, 90,000 soft drinks, 93,600 bottles of water and 53,000 souvenirs.
Inside the tents outside the entrance to the 'Grand Chapiteau' you’ll find all kinds of food (popcorn, sweets and snacks) and drinks so you can recharge your batteries after enjoying a visit to the unconventional world of Amaluna.
Amaluna seeks to immerse the audience in a mysterious, verdant and enchanted environment of a carefully crafted forest of bamboo branches that surround and frame the action on the island of Amaluna.
A team of 85 people from Cirque du Soleil spend 8 days assembling the Big Top and another 3 dismantling its structure. A total of 65 trucks are needed to carry 2,000 tonnes of materials for Amaluna. Supported by 4 poles, it accommodates a total of 2,600 people.

Cirque du Soleil never ceases to amaze and music is one of its strengths. Amaluna, the most advanced and daring work of Cirque du Soleil to date, recreates a unique and unexpected sound; a guitar-based electronic anthem influenced by contemporary rock and performed by six female members.
Each Cirque du Soleil artist is responsible for applying their own make-up at every performance; this can take between 40 and 120 minutes, depending on the character they play.
Amaluna costume designer Mérédith Caron has brought 130 amazing and fabulous characters to life through her creations. Caron harmoniously overlaps and blends ancient and modern aspects of different eras and cultures. “It’s the encounter of humanity, the glorification of the beauty of the human being”, she explains.
The Amaluna installations include the 'Grand Chapiteau', the VIP Rouge tent, artist tents and accesses, box offices, administration area and a kitchen with dining area for the cast and crew of Amaluna, where 250 - 300 meals are prepared every day.
Amaluna has a team of 114 people, including 46 artists from 17 different countries. Cirque du Soleil has approximately 4,000 employees worldwide, including 1,300 artists of almost 50 different nationalities.
Jealous Cali has always been in love with the young Miranda and will do everything possible to tear her away from Romeo’s arms.
The Peacock Goddess, the Moon Goddess, the Balance Goddess, the Valkyries and the Amazons use their magic powers to rule over the mysterious island of Amaluna. They use their powers sometimes to help and sometimes to hinder the young protagonists in their challenge-filled quest for happiness.
Miranda, Prospera’s daughter, revels in the stimulating world of Amaluna that surrounds her. She is oblivious to what the future holds and about to celebrate her passage into womanhood, a ceremony in honour of femininity, the transfer of ideas and values to a new generation.
Amaluna is not only the mysterious island where Prospera wields her magical powers. The fusion of the words ama, a reference to “mother" in many languages, and luna (moon) as a symbol of femininity, combine to reflect the heroism of women as the axis around which this Cirque du Soleil show is based.
For the first time in the history of Cirque du Soleil, Amaluna assembles a cast of 70% women, accompanied by an instrumental band that is also composed entirely of women. Amaluna aims to pay tribute to the enthusiastic spirit of work and the voice of women.
Prospera is the queen of the island and in possession of magical powers. Her most important concern is that her daughter finds love and makes her own way in the world…but she can use her powers to influence the way this comes about.
